Congratulations on your acceptance to NJIT! Below is information pertaining to all accepted international students. International students are students who will study at NJIT in F-1 status. Exchange students (J-1) should go to http://qu8t.cp55586.com/global/incoming/j1-students/exchange.
After reviewing the information below, select your appropriate student type (first-year, transfer or graduate) to review specific next steps.
As an international student, you must apply for a student visa to come to NJIT. Here are the steps for that:
- Pay your SEVIS fee. Go to fmjfee.com to pay the required SEVIS fee (Form I-901 fee). You can make the payment by credit card (online) or by check/money order (mail). You will need to show the receipt to the consular officer at the time of your visa interview. You will have to provide your SEVIS number when you pay the fee. Your SEVIS number can be found on your application status page (connect.cp55586.com/status) or on your I-20 document (top left-hand corner, starting with the letter “N”).
- Schedule an appointment for your visa interview. Contact the nearest American embassy or consulate to apply for your F-1 visa. The list of documents you need to bring to your interview varies from country to country, so check the embassy or consulate website for detailed information.
- Prepare for your visa interview. You should be ready to explain why you chose NJIT, what your objectives and goals are and what you plan to do after you earn your degree. Your interview will be conducted in English.
- Contact EducationUSA for additional support. If you would like to get additional support to help you prepare for your visa interview, contact the nearest Education USA office (educationusa.info) and schedule an appointment with a counselor. EducationUSA offices provide free of charge services to students planning to study in the United States.
- Complete NJIT’s International Student Orientation. All new international students are required to complete the mandatory international student online orientation prior to arriving on campus. Check cp55586.com/global/new-student-information for more information.
